Why is the RVD often lower in cost than many standard GPS based black boxes?

EOBD systems have the advantage that they listen to the vehicle’s engine management data and transmit data that is essential for compiling reports. This paradigm shift in technology means that the vehicle is in essence the black box. Airmax Remote’s engineers are able to decode and interpret the data. Hardware costs are therefore lower and GSM usage is lighter. Airmax Remote offers monthly rentals including data transmission costs and all that varies is the monthly costs of GPRS or SMS and report access. Usage is known and pre agreed monthly fees can be set. Over usage outside the bundle will be flagged and restricted or set on a higher tariff. Recovery of stolen vehicles is an example of this where often hundreds of locations requests are made when tracking.

What costs are associated with the airtime if I'm roaming from one country to another?

Generally costs will be higher. Even SMS’s are more expensive if delivered from on overseas territory. GPRS will also be more expensiveas GPRS is not yet a perfect science when it comes to roaming. It is important to ensure your SIM is enabled for roaming otherwise the data will not be sent from the vehicles but stored and transmitted on its return. GSM networks do have arrangements amongst themselves as preferred roaming partners. We are able to offer a fixed fee roaming tariff and this is available for those fleets operating within more than one country but excluding the UK.

How much does it cost?

Airmax Remote units and web access can be free as usually they are provided by you leasing company or insurer. For fleet users prices are based on the size of your fleet. Airmax is a wholesaler and tends to provide a service via third parties but we will quote directly if requested.

Are there any additional costs such as GSM costs?

Sometimes, it depends on the application. We allow 1 meg of data per vehicle per month and reserve the right to change for addition airtime.
