The Decision Tree to buying your Telematic System

Some useful pointers on choosing the right system for your fleet

Hardware

Is it to be covertly or overtly used?

Is the Remote Telematic Unit (RTU) CE marked?

Does installation involve wire cutting?

Is the RTU unit added to a tracking module or a combined system with embedded code?

Is it also Bluetooth or Wi-Fi enabled?

Does it monitor EOBD data or ECU codes?

Can the unit be tested or fault checked remotely and does it support Over Air Programming (OAP)?

Software

Is the software updated automatically?

Can the data be streamed live into your back office?

Are the reports specific to you requirements and can you understand them?

Can you run reports in CFV, Excel format or FTP?

Can the reports be sent directly to you by streaming?

How frequently (in minutes) is vehicle information and location updated?

Does it report all data or just exceptions and can you specific which option you require?

Do you know what KPI’s will be needed?

Is applicable mapping software client-based or web-based?

Can you white label the reports?

Is it multi lingual?

Customer Support

Does the service provider offer its own technical support?

For larger contracts do you have a SLA in place?

Have you asked for a copy of the public and product warranties?

Do you know where the hosting of your data is and is it secure with data protection in place?
