Equipping company cars with ALD Automotive's unique ProFleet2 telematics system has helped save mobile phone provider O2 around £90,000 following the separate thefts of six vehicles in recent months.
A Volkswagen Golf 1.9 TDi SE leased by O2 from ALD Automotive was the latest car to be stolen and subsequently recovered by police forces with the aid of ProFleet2. The system is fitted to more than 1,000 vehicles leased by O2 from ALD Automotive.
The £16,700 car joins three Audis and two BMWs on the list of O2 vehicles stolen and swiftly found in separate incidents in different parts of the UK. Collectively the vehicles had a combined list price of around £150,000.
Using residual value data from used car value experts CAP, ALD Automotive calculates that the market value of the six vehicles stolen was in the region of £90,000. With O2 self insuring its company cars that sum would have to have been paid out of profits in compensation if the vehicles had not been recovered.
Mark Spriggs, O2's employee benefits manager, said: "Once again the value of O2 deciding to fit ProFleet2 to our company cars has been proven.
The fact that the technology has helped the police to recover our leased vehicles when they have been stolen has been an added value benefit because it minimises the cost to O2.
As we self-insure, incidents such as vehicle theft are a direct cost to the company. Recovery of the vehicles has significantly reduced that cost as we would otherwise have had to write off the cars and compensate ALD for their market value.
We use ProFleet2 mainly to ensure that our vehicles are serviced on schedule, which is important from both a duty of care viewpoint and ensuring costs are controlled. The unit's ability to aid police recover our cars when stolen has proved to be an important by-product of our decision to utilise the technology."
